Pat Fleet and Jane Barbe

A few years ago, Jane Barbe died.   For those of you who don’t know who she was, she was known to me and perhaps many others as “the time lady”, that voice you’d hear when you dialed our local telephone company’s time service.  Her voice is one of the most recognizable of all American voices. Another really recognizable voice is that of Pat Fleet, the voice of AT&T.  In fact, the way that she says AT&T is a registered trademark of AT&T.

Ted Koppel of ABC Nightline featured both of these women on Nightline a few years ago.  Here’s the clip.

Pat Fleet also has a website.  She has some samples, including some funny ones which were never used.

  1. Both of these ladies have nice voices. The older and the more hard of hearing I get, the more I appreciate people who speak with good diction!

  2. Oh my goodness! It was kind of weird (and fun!) to hear them!
