Temple Grandin

I had meant to add this to my post about not fitting in.  I’m not sure if any of you know who Temple Grandin is, but her story is remarkable and has recently been made into a movie.  Dr. Temple Grandin, Ph.D., professor of animal science at Colorado State University is one of the world’s foremost experts on the behaviour of cattle.  Her designs for humane slaughtering systems have been widely adopted.  She has consulted with some of the world’s leading food companies, including McDonald’s, where she participated in their audits of their meat producing plants.

She is also autistic.  Unlike Asperger’s Syndrome patients, she did not learn to speak until she was four years old.  She is a major voice in the autism community now, lecturing at workshops and seminars worldwide both on animal behaviour and on austism.
