The president of Mexico, Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, has proposed sweeping changes to Mexico’s law enforcement. As in the United States, Mexico’s law enforcement agencies involve federal, state, and finally city police forces. Mexico City is considered pretty much a state unto itself. Like Seoul, it has its own chief of government and legislative assembly. In the rest of Mexico, there are state governments with their own governors and finally the municipalities themselves.
The proposal would take all of the local city police and merge them into the state police. All the police in a given state would be under the command of the governor of that state.
