The Hyundai Pony

Professor Andrei Lankov of Kookmin University has been writing a series of historical articles for The Korea Times in honour of their 60th anniversary.  This article is about the Hyundai Pony, the first Korean-made car sold both domestically and overseas.

Hyundai has now become one of the largest automobile makers in the world.  When the Chairman of Hyundai Group, Chung Ju Yung decided it was time to make cars, he had many naysayers.  He proved them all wrong, as he did with so many of his other “impossible” projects.
