Gyeonghoeru and the ice

It has been cold in Seoul of late.  This is why it is not entirely surprising to see that the pond in Gyeongbok Palace has pretty well frozen over.  This pavilion used to be used for royal entertaining back in the heydays of Gyeongbok Palace and the Joseon Dynasty.  After the establishment of the Republic of Korea, the first president of the Republic of Korea, Rhee Syngman used to like to fish in the pond.

This beautiful pavilion, named Gyeonghoeru used to appear on the 10,000 won note.  I am not a fan of the new banknotes which were released in 2007.  Instead of Gyeonghoeru, an armillary sphere now appears.
