The governor’s mansion

Here is a provincial governor’s mansion.  Today, South Korea continues to have provincial governors, though I don’t think that they provide them with a house.  You will notice that it is not as brightly coloured as the royal palaces or Buddhist temples are.  In fact, only royal palaces and Buddhist temples could bear the polychrome designs that mark many a building in South Korea.

One thing which has constantly surprised about the royal palaces and other places is how small they are, especially in comparison to the size of palaces elsewhere in the world.  But again, so many things were destroyed during various Japanese invasions that it is a wonder that anything survived.
