Former President Roh to be indicted

Roh Moo-hyun (盧武鉉), who served as president from 2003 until 2008, is now facing indictment on a bribery scandal as The Korea Times reports.  Unfortunately, the presidents here seem rarely far from scandal.  Chun Doo-hwan had taken millions as had Roh Tae-woo, the first democratically elected president.  Both were sent to prison, though pardoned by Kim Young-sam at the request of the incoming president Kim Dae-jung.  Kim Young-sam spoke often of what he called “the Korean disease” and of wanting to cure the corruption that exists within society.  However, his son was was implicated in corruption, something which tarnished his reputation.  Three of Kim Dae-jung’s sons were found to have stolen billions of dollars through improper connections.  Now we come to former President Roh.  And yes, the money does involve his family as well.
