Rama V was here

This elephant statue, located on the grounds of the Old Parliament House, Singapore, commemorates the visit of H.M. King Chulalongkorn, sometimes known as Rama V of Thailand back in the 19th century.  Rama V was one of Thailand’s greatest kings and is portrayed in the famous musical The King and I.  He was taught as a child by Anna Leonowens, the English teacher protrayed in the musical.

Speaking of Thailand, not far from all the glistening malls that line Orchard Road, we see this somewhat run down-looking building that serves as Thailand’s Royal Embassy.  The Thai government has been offered exorbitant sums of money to sell it and establish a new embassy somewhere else, but so far they are staying.
