Who to vote for?

It is hard to believe it, but another General Election is upon us.  I am so thankful not to be in the USA right now, where I enjoy relative freedom of the inundation of all the attack ads and whatnot.  Yes, politics is a dirty business, indeed.

I consider myself a conservative.  As such, I am generally in favour of a limited government, fiscal responsibility, and maximum freedom for all.  In looking at how the Bush administration has fared in relation to these tenets which they give lip service to, one would be forced to conclude that they have failed and failed miserably.

The size of government has grown exponentially since Bush took office.  And it has become far more intrusive into the personal affairs of its citizens (and non-citizens, too!).  As for fiscal responsibility, well, the less said about that the better.  We are now running huge deficits.  Much our foreign debt is owned by the People’s Republic of China which possesses huge US dollar and Treasury Bond reserves.

The Iraq war was troubling to me right from the start.  Rather than ensuring peace and security in the Middle East, it has instead opened a Pandora’s Box which may never be closed.  One would have hoped that they might have learned a thing or two from Britain’s foray into Iraq in the early 20th century.  Apparently not.

So, now we come to McCain.  There isn’t much in his proposed policies that seems too different from Bush.  And this is indeed troubling.  Would a McCain-Palin administration just be a continuation of Bush’s failed policies?  There is reason to believe that it might.  Many of the policies of the Bush administration will be continued by the Democrats.  Much like his predecessor Nixon, Bush had few qualms in leading the American people to drink from the heady streams of socialism with huge new entitlements.

I received my ballot the other day with instructions on how to fax it into the County Recorder.  I know who I am voting for with a couple of exceptions.  I simply don’t know who I shall vote for when it comes to the Presidential part of it.

  1. i guess you just have to go with the lesser of two evils on this one. frustrating, but i do believe there is a better choice. not a far better choice or a great choice by any means, but there’s not much we can do about that at this point.

i’d love to see your new shirts! glad you can get them so cheap and tailored to you. that’s awesome. will you be able to show them (and your new suit) off at one (or both?) receptions in january?

received your postcard the other day–thanks! i was thinking we need some cool theaters like that hear, but i suppose we’d end up with just a bunch of square dancing? ha ha!
