The 10 worst Chinese laws

The Olympic Games are now over.  It seems that Beijing did, more or less, play host to the world quite admirably.  That being said, there are still a lot of things that I’d like to see happen in China, none of which will be possible while China still remains governed by an authoritarian regime and the Communist Party.  There is a burgeoning middle class, something which is indeed good to see.  The Chinese people are freer than they have been for a long, long time.  However, a lot of the things that we take for granted in the West, are things that are truly impossible in China.

Foreign Policy magazine has compiled a list of the ten worst laws in China, still on the books and still enforced.  You can read about them here.

  1. A glaring omission from the list is the one-child policy.

  2. The One Child Policy was indeed a glaring omission. It should have been on there. These were of course Foreign Policy’s top picks, but this one should have been on it.
